Le futur proche
The immediate future is used to talk about events that are about to take place or for which arrangements have already been made.
It corresponds to the English “going to” as in “we are going to see a new film”
In order to form the immediate future in French, you need to:
1) Take the present tense of the verb “aller”
Je vais
Tu vas
Il/elle/on va
Nous allons
Vous allez
Ils/elles vont
2) Add the infinitive of the verb
Je vais voir un nouveau film (I am going to see a new film)
Here are some verbs in the infinitive. Practise making sentences using the immediate future
Aller au cinéma – prendre un café – boire un verre – travailler dans le jardin – prendre le train de 11 heures – voir mes enfants – visiter le musée – nager dans la mer – prendre ma retraite – partir en vacances – voyager par le bateau – prendre la voiture – contacter l’office du tourisme – voir à l’office du tourisme – acheter un cadeau pour nos amis – attendre un moment
